Mexican Black Kingsnake

Mexican Black Kingsnake - Lampropeltis getula negrita

The Mexican Black kingsnake is a glossy solid black king snake from western Sonora and northwestern Sinaloa, Mexico as well as a small area in southern Arizona.

They are generally docile and less nervous than the California Kingsnakes though this is dependent on regular handling. Their solid jet black colouration and moderate size (about 3-4 feet) makes them very popular with snake keepers. In the wild it is rare to find completely black kingsnakes and they are often speckled white/yellow and it is through selective breeding that all-black specimens can now be found.
