Boa Constrictor - Boa Constrictor
Boa constrictors, also known as Red Tail Boas, can reach 12 feet in length as adults. They have an attractive pattern of brown, reddish-brown to black "saddles" or dorsal blobs of color on a lighter background which can range through white, golden, grey or brownish, pink, with a reddish brown tail.
Boas do well in captivity and become quite docile with regular handling. They can live up to 20 to 30 years old in captivity making them a long-term commitment as a pet. Due to their large size a very large vivarium is required though some prefer to use an entire "snake proof" room in their house as a vivarium that has been specially set up to accommodate the Boa. Definately not a snake for beginners though would be a jewel in any advanced keeper's collection.
