Pink Toe Birdeater

Pink Toe Birdeater - Avicularia avicularia

The Pink Toe Birdeater is one of the more popular species of tarantula kept as pets. It is primarily aboreal and so lives in trees where it makes its "cocoon" like web. Though it is known as a "birdeater" it is very unlikely it would actually eat birds in the wild.

Being aboreal, this tarantula requires a tall viviarium with plenty of artificial plants for it to make its nest. Many people say that the Pink Toe can be kept communally if the tank is large enough as they are not cannablistic. Though this may be true it is still not recommended as it makes it harder to monitor the feeding habits of individuals if more than one is kept in the same tank.
