Rough Green Snake - Opheodrys aestivus

The Rough Green Snake (Opheodrys aestivus) is a non-venomous North American snake. The Rough Green Snake is docile, often allowing close approach by humans, and seldom, if ever, bites though they can be very fast when they want to.

Both in the wild and in captivity they mainly feed on insects, as they are too small and slender to swallow rodents. Because of this diet it is neccessary to provide UVB lighting so they will have a healthy metabolism. Snakes feeding predominantly on rodents do not require UVB.
